IntraLase®
LASIK surgery has a long history of safely and effectively
improving vision and lessening patients’ dependence
on glasses and contact lenses. Over the years, the procedure
has been refined to diminish side effects and generate more
successful outcomes. IntraLase® takes this
progress one step further, adding yet another level of safety
and accuracy.
IntraLase is the first all-laser technique for making the
corneal flap during step one of the LASIK procedure. Instead
of using the traditional microkeratome (an oscillating, hand-guided
blade), the surgeon uses an IntraLase infrared beam to precisely
create a microthin flap on the outer layer of the eye, also
known as the cornea. IntraLase allows Our Doctorsto create
a flap of exact diameter, depth, hinge location, and centration.
The focused laser pulses divide tissue at the molecular level,
without transferring heat or impacting the surrounding area.
The result is a safe, personalized corneal flap.
The consistent accuracy of IntraLase technology may be an option for Philadelphia, New Jersey and Wilmington Delaware LASIK patients who previously were not candidates,
such as those with thin corneas. IntraLase can also be used
with WAVEfront Custom LASIK, thereby offering patients a completely
personalized procedure – custom diagnosis with WAVEfront
mapping, tailored laser flap creation with IntraLase, and
custom laser vision correction with the excimer laser. If
you are apprehensive about LASIK or WAVEfront Custom LASIK,
an “all-laser” alternative may be a comforting
option for you.
The Intralase procedure has helped thousands of Philadelphia, Delaware Valley, New Jersey and Wilmington LASIK patients eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses, without using a blade for LASIK surgery.
